How To Start Living Authentically And Truly Enjoy Your Own Company

How To Start Living Authentically And Truly Enjoy Your Own Company

There may come a time when you experience feelings of loneliness and unease.

And for me at first, this meant that I kept losing myself in my thoughts, overanalyzing situations, getting sad, constantly reminiscing about the good memories of the past, and avoiding the things that once brought me joy and happiness.

Because of this, there have been so many times where I’ve felt this impulsive feeling to do a total reinvention of myself.

It usually starts out physically but quickly degrades as I try to improve myself socially and mentally.

After many trials, successes, and failures, I’ve come to realise that certain areas in life tend to typically improve on their own accord, simply with time.

But making positive changes to yourself, including forming new habits and adopting a positive outlook on life, will go a long way toward assisting you in becoming the best version of yourself.

So, in this blog post I’ve gathered a simple list of 5 ways to stay optimistic, enjoy your own company and continue being your authentic self.

Let’s Dive In 🙂

#1 Don't Rush

Recognise that it is perfectly normal to feel as if your life is moving at a snail's pace, with the best things and the right people still to come.

See this period of your life as a blank canvas on which you can paint anything you truly desire.

No more desperately trying to rush friendships or encounters, but instead letting these things unfold naturally as they will.

Enjoying your own company doesn’t mean not intentionally trying to build relationships or staying away from people; it simply means being at peace with yourself so much so that you begin to radiate an inviting form of confidence and make the most of the time you have alone to enjoy the little things.

#2 Treat Yourself To Those Little Things

Creating fun and exciting memories shouldn’t just be restricted to a scheduled girl’s trip or only when your family is available.

It’s time to start embracing the goodies of life even when you’re alone.

Learn to truly enjoy watching a new series.

Free yourself from your saddening thoughts so that you can laugh and criticise the characters for their bad decisions and applaud them when they’re in the right.

Step into that nearby restaurant or cafe shop and try something new off the menu while soothing your mind by listening to your favourite podcast.

Why not watch a movie screening at the cinema or finally purchase that perfume you’ve been eyeing for over a month now?

Treating yourself to the little things could mean picking up a new book, learning a new dance in the mirror, or simply taking a morning walk at the local reservoir.

It’s so important to participate in different things alone, letting go of that uneasiness and finding comfort in doing so.

#3 Choose And Plan A Date Night For Yourself

Speaking of treating yourself, whether you decide to do it once a month or once a year, I strongly recommend that you put in the effort to plan and create a beautiful day for you to whine down (or whine up) and simply enjoy yourself.

Sometimes we need another reminder, apart from our birthdays, of how special we are and how much we’ve grown.

A new chapter doesn’t just happen when it's a new year or on the day of your birth; it happens when you finally decide that it should.

Also, don't assume that a date night requires you to leave the house and go somewhere spectacular.

Write a list of the shows you want to watch, order yourself a fitting feast, dress up or get super comfy, give yourself a gift, and then simply reflect on how happy you are right now.

#4 Take Pretty Pictures Of Yourself

…Take pictures of yourself in general.

It doesn’t matter if you have glossy lips or a winged eyeliner or if your hair is pulled back into a messy bun.

As someone who is not photogenic at all, I love creating a gorgeous look, with my outfit, makeup and hair and capturing it all on camera for me to look back on whenever.

Try it :)

#5 Start, Dump And Finish New Habits

At times, when we try to do something exciting and start a new habit, our end goals tend to bring an overbearing pressure that makes it quite difficult for us to joyfully achieve.

I’ve always been told that when you start something, you should aim to finish it.

And while that is true in many regards, there is also nothing wrong with experimenting and going about things in your own little way.

Go for an early run today, and if you don’t feel like doing it tomorrow, don’t.

Try boxing tomorrow, and if you don’t want to attend again until next month, be fine with that.

It’s okay to try new things and then move on, especially when you don’t have a set goal in mind to achieve.

It’s not about being lazy or procrastinating; it’s about getting in tune with the way your body feels and feeling great about your decision.

Well, That’s It, Folks
